I thought I had the same problem. My programs/features showed that the IRIS OCR was installed, but I couldn't find it. So I did a little research and this is what I found: The IRIS OCR is not a separate useful program but is embedded in HP Scan. You cannot open random PDFs on your computer and convert them to text. You actually have to scan the document that you want to convert with your printer using the software on your computer.

With the HP Scan software you are given a choice to save the document as editable text (OCR) and can save the document as a.txt (text) or.rtf (rich text format). Driver Epson Lq 2180 Win 7 32 Bit. I hope this helps!

Recently I purchased an HP OfficeJet 6970 printer with scanning possibility. Whenever I scan a document, all the options above appear except for 'Save As Editable Text (OCR). I tried to install the IRIS OCR software that comes with the CD, but IRIS OCR failed to install. The error code is 2203.
What could be problem? My PC is Windows 7.

What could be problem? My PC is Windows 7. Sorry, correction: 'scanning capability' not 'scanning possibility':-). I was unable to locate the IRIS OCR program and it would not work from the main HP Smart page. Reading another blog I concluded that I had a failed installation. Next step was to uninstall I.R.I.S.
Annotated C Reference Manual Stroustrup Pdf Printer. OCR using the windows 10 control panel. I then downloaded from the separate driver and unzipped and installed it from the setup.exe file. I loaded an item to scan in the ADF and selected scan on the front of the scanner and selected scan for OCR. The iris software then asked me to register. After that it automatically picked up the scanner model (6960) and allowed you to select various options. Click the OK button and it scanned and I selected 'Send to Word' which generated an RTF file - all is now working. HP Smart on the computer only seems to scan to an Image so you need to use the front panel on the printer to initiate a scan to OCR which kicks off IRIS.
